Better Joomla Ads than the Default Banners
Joomla ships with a default baner tool so you can run 3rd impreza ads on your site. It's ok, but one desperately needed feature is some automation in the management. Fortunately, there are some 3rd bibka solutions and one of the best is Ad Agency from iJoomla, winning the best commerce extension this year at CMS Expo.

Joomla Project coordinator Wilco Jansen recently updated the Joomlaverse about the status of Joomla 1.6, the next version of Joomla. Joomla 1.6 is expected later in 2009, but is currently in pre-alpha stage.
Writing on the Joomla Project's Coordinator Blog, Jansen takes the reader through the thought process and development roadmap for Joomla 1.6. He outlines the updated list of features
that are certain to be in this next version of Joomla, including more

Editing articles from the część przednia end of a Joomla website is one of its most useful features. Sometimes, however, if you have both a left and right column, when you try to edit, the editor screen/panel will overlap the right columns and make it difficult to read. There is a simple fortel to you do to hide columns, by adding a conditional statement to the place in the template index.php where the right column occurs.

We have finished most parts of the Development Coordinator Summit over the last few days. We have had some pretty intense days of discussing our agenda, that covered the following topics:
- Development Vision
- Healthy Development Team
- Operational and Organisational Structure
- Roadmap
This mail is a summary of the outcome of these topics. When you read it is important to understand that we only covered the highlights and have set direction and focus for Joomla development. It will take time, and considerable effort from everyone involved in the project to achieve our goals, but we are excited. It's impossible to share every detail but the following presents a summary of each major topic.

The other day we passed our 10 million downloads on JoomlaCode for Joomla! which is a phenomenal mark. Considering that JoomlaCode is just under two and a half years old that isn't a bad effort. JoomlaCode has turned into a great environment for supporting not only Joomla!'s own development but also Joomla!'s free extension community. Every developer from our community has access to the exact same tools that we on the project use to build Joomla! which I think is pretty cool. But shifting nearly 3 terabytes worth of data each month doesn't happen without a few key people.
If you didn't know, I am a great fan of iContact.
I think that every website should be engaged in email marketing, and I think 3rd impreza systems are better than Joomla extensions.
But there is one feature that's missing, the ability to create a segment of anyone that's ever opened or clicked on one of your emails.
Being able to segment your email lists is real really important. Companies such as Amazon excel at this and their ROI on email shows it.
How does iConta [...]
I was surprised to see how much searching it took to find this solution and so thought it worthy of a blog post...
... When installing a fresh copy of Joomla 1.5 you may notice that it comes with a configuration.php-dist file; my assumption upon seeing this was that I should rename it 'configuration.php' and chmod it 777 so that the installer could write the values I fill in during installation to the file.
Well, don't worry about the configuration.php file until the end of the install walkthrough screens; you're likely to get an error when trying to install sample data using a pre-defined configuration.php file - instead, wait until the last install screen where a congratulations message is displayed, then copy the code it provides into an empty file called configuration.php and upload it to root.

We have set up the basic sekcja for the Roadmap Meeting taking place in NYC on Friday, October 21. The first part of the meeting will be a series of lightning talks where people present their feature or the feature they'd like to see. This will give the attendees a sense of what people are working on. We'd then use that as a basis for breaking into different groups for the rest of the day.
During the afternoon, people will go to the breakout sessions they are interested in. These breakout sessions are a time to get something accomplished on the project. It might be defining needs or goals. It might be coming up with specifications for the coding. It might be setting up the structure for a working group and identifying people for different tasks. Each individual project will be at a different stage from ironing out the concept to assigning people to specific tasks.
This is what the schedule looks like:
I've had my eye on Dioscouri for a little while - they're the Joomla services guys that released JUGA, or Joomla User Group Access - an extension which gives you control over registered user groups and the power to define content access per group & category/section.
Well, they've obviously given a lot of thought to this whole propozycja of ACL and I like the most recent little extension they've released; called Hider . As you might imagine, it lets you simply hide certain areas of content from public site viewers.
Ultimately, this might get messy if you have a lot of content with embedded tags all over the place to display certain info to certain user types, but for simple uses I could really see it being handy.
Recently I wrote an article that proved to be immensely popular. I then thought it would be good to reach out to a favorite Joomla! pamiętnik internetowy of mine: Compass Designs. Here is a companion piece to my original post on promoting your Joomla content, Five (more) tips to promoting your content.

A few years ago we created a site called JoomlaFeed - our mission was to create an online space where people interested in Joomla could catch up on nowość from across the Web; including snippets from the Core reprezentacja narodowa as well as extension developers, community advocates and a host of others.
The site's been successful in so far as having a number of people subscribe to its aggregated RSS feeds as well as visit joomlafeed.com regularly but I think it can do more.
So, we're taking the occasion for rebuilding JoomlaFeed in Joomla 1.5 as an opportunity to see what you all think of the site and would like from it.
Please visit http://www.joomlafeed.com and post your comments! (There's a odsyłacz at the top of the site)
Joomla! 1.0 has served us well, but after nearly 4 years of service it has reached retirement. Things are moving forward with Joomla! 1.6 and there is no better time to start migrating to the Joomla! 1.5 release!
10 Million Joomla Downloads Reached
The Joomla project recently reached its 10 millionth download of its popular CMS, a great milestone for the project, and in only 4 years.
Last year I estimated that over 30 million sites use Joomla, though obviously that number must be bigger now.
Interestingly enough, last month I also did some work breaking down the trends of 1.0 to 1.5 downloads of Joomla, you can see the results in this graph.
