Beginner Joomla Training May 28th Manchester, NH

OK, so this is firmly in the rant category. I recently got an email from a good friend of mine who is a veterinarian. She is starting her own practice and seeking website advice. I said I'd be happy to help, and in our emails back and forth she sent me a łącze to a site she liked. I checked it out, and it was OK. It was created by a company that makes vet websites. I looked at some of their services, and a gradual sense of horror took over.

Joomla 1.5.11 has been released, and it includes security patches, so its important to update. But getting your Joomla site upgraded to the new version can be tricky, especially if you are using FTP.

Fortunately, there is an easier way, check out Joomlashack's tutorial How to Update Joomla 1.5 Versions.

You'll need SSH access, and remember to back up first!

Of course, if you want to never have to bother with updating Joomla or your extensions ever again, you can try [...] Part of a series of articles highlighting new features in Joomla 1.6. The publikatory Manager is a longstanding feature in Joomla. It came over from the Mambo days. Between Joomla 1.0 and 1.5, not many changes were made to the Media Manager. Along the way, the media Manager even lost functionality, when it lost the ability to upload multiple images at once. Fortunately, the media Manager has been granted a bit of love in Joomla 1.6. Let's take a look at some of the new features you can expect to find.

As part of the normal budgeting process, the Production Leadership team has come up with four goals for 2012. Those goals concern releases of the Joomla Platform and the Joomla CMS, continuing maintenance updates, and outreach and promotion to a technical audience.

Migrating from Joomla 1.6 to 1.7 is very simple. However, depending on where you're starting in your Joomla 1.6 site, this may take a few steps to complete.

One of the great things about the recent Joomla! Developers Conference in New York was that, with Andrew, Ian, Louis, Ron, Sam, and myself, we had all four Development Coordinators atut a majority of the Production Work Group all in one place for the very first time. This gave us the chance to talk in depth about an important issue that is critical to the future of the project -- the release cycle.

As many of you know, version 1.5 was released in January of 2007, almost 2 years ago. That means that it will be over 2 years between versions 1.5 and 1.6. I think most of us would agree that this is too long between versions. But just saying we should release more often doesn't address the underlying issues and challenges.

Fortunately, Louis had given this a lot of thought, and he led a discussion of how we can get to a more dynamic release cycle while preserving the stability and reliability that our users have come to expect. I wrote up a short proposal based on that discussion and just posted it to the General Development list here.

As I stress in that post, although we are excited about this idea, it is only a proposal at this point. We want to hear your feedback before we make any decisions. So, if this is a subject that you care about, please read, consider, and then let us know your thoughts. Thanks!

There are a few people whose every word I follow and try to incorporate into my business, and Brian Clark of CopyBlogger.com and Teaching Sells is one of them.

In 2008, Brian launched his Teaching Sells course. A complete guide to setting up and running and online paid membership websites. It was insanely popular, I joined up right when his doors opened, and so did people like Aaron Wall (of SEO Book).

After 2 rounds of students, Brian closed his doors and has been busy im[...] Joomla 1.7.3 and Joomla 1.5.25 were released today, as a result of a zero-day security issue. Because of the security issue, it's recommended that you update your sites immediately. Joomla 1.7.3 fixed 77 CMS bugs as well as the two security issues. One of the big new features in Joomla 1.7.3 has to do with multi-language improvements, which are summarized in this pamiętnik internetowy post.

Give us six days, and we'll help you make a plan for a successful, content-rich website.

That's the idea behind our new six day mini-course "Creating a Content-Rich Website."

When you are starting on your path to create a website, you have to understand some key differences between a old-school static/HTML type site and one built with a modern Content Management architektura (CMS) like Joomla.

This special 6 lesson mini-course will show you how to take a generic and "static" business website and propel it into web 2.0

Just got back from a great two days at the 2009 Chicago CMS Expo. It was great to see dev's from Drupal and Plone rubbing shoulders with the Joomla regulars.

I had an opportunity to have a quick interview with SDRnews, and gave away some pre-release copies of the Joomla! 1.5: A User's Guide (2nd Edition)

Its amazing to look back on some of the most 'recent' posts here on WhyJoomla and see that they were infrequent and published so very long ago.

There are many reasons for my neglect of this pamiętnik internetowy - mainly these are related to our not having worked with Joomla much at Design nauczyciel studio (my web design/development firm) lately, but also because every time I would look at the site these past months I would shudder at the thought of cleaning out all of the spammy comments which had accumulated in the Compojoom commenting plugin were using.

Well, client work or not, I've decided to tap myself into the Joomla community again and fire up this blog - unfortunately this means that I had to do away with the old commenting system and delete hundreds of valid comments in the process to shift over to using Disqus (thanks to JoomlaWorks' plugin), but I think it will make for a more enjoyable blogging, and reading, experience for us from now on.

Back in Nov 2006, I wrote the following pamiętnik internetowy post: What is 'contributing' to an Open Source Project?

Every so often I like to take a look at how we are now doing, in comparision to how we have been doing in the past. Having taken the time to do so recently, I'm really encouraged, and hopefully as a follow up in my series, I hope you'll benefit for reflecting with me, if you've been around for a while, or if you're only new, joining me and contributing.

Let me start with my conclusion I wrote back then:

There is no utopia. No one, and no project, is perfect. Do we have faults, yes, some of them may be more important to you than they are to me, however the fact remains, if you are here for Joomla, the structure is already in place (maybe not ideal, or perfect) for your contribution to be accepted.

From my point of view, this still stands as true today as it was almost 4 years ago when I first wrote this. However, what I'm most encouraged about is the progress we have made in being able to accept the many and varied contributions of so many people. In some ways our structure has also improved to facilitate this. Let's dig a little deeper into this now.

What is contributing to an Open Source Project?

10 Million Joomla Downloads Reached

The Joomla project recently reached its 10 millionth download of its popular CMS, a great milestone for the project, and in only 4 years.

Last year I estimated that over 30 million sites use Joomla, though obviously that number must be bigger now.

Interestingly enough, last month I also did some work breaking down the trends of 1.0 to 1.5 downloads of Joomla, you can see the results in this graph.

Monthly 1.0 and 1.5 downloads of joomla
